Lindsay Lohan doesn't live in a Vacuum

I read this post on "Teaching Online Journalism" and it got me thinking about the future of News (I seem to do that a lot).

The author makes some good points about the lack of innovation from "traditional" news publishers...
"What about trying new things? I have yet to see an app from any news organization — for a phone or the iPad — that spells innovation. Steve refers to “completely new information experiences that don’t even vaguely resemble old products,” but whatever these are, I have not seen them. A new way to read a magazine? It looks cool, but it’s still a magazine."

Mindy (the author) goes on to say that the 20% + profit margins created an aura of complacency and an instinct to protect that profit margin versus use that clout to experiment and create (think craigslist and youtube)...

It's true that most Print publications have been laggards when it comes to new media innovation and acquisition, but there is still time...use some of that cash to play and, more importantly, fail at your attempts at innovation...you might learn something.

Content producers need to realize that the content they produce is not entirely unique and is not an island unto itself...there is an entire content ecosystem out there (text, video, games etc.)...the Real Time Web (RTW) is here, and creating dynamic learning experiences using the RTW will drive engagement as users thirst for more understanding around the topic at hand...whether that is Lindsay Lohan or the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

Twitter is doing some neat things with this on their new homepage...but that just looks at that topic on Twitter...good step, but let's go ten steps further

I am sure there are some cool apps out there doing this...so please send me some suggestions!
